Anxiety Treatment Options
Here’s good news about anxiety treatment options: there are a lot of them.
The challenge is finding which combination will work best for you.
As you might gather, my main personal interest has been panic attacks and panic disorder.
That’s because those problems have struck a little close to home. However in the course of seeking help for
my own problems I've come across a wide variety of treatments that are helpful for a wide range of anxiety
disorders.
As I explained on What Are Panic Attacks, panic
attacks are one specific type of anxiety disorder.
On the Difference
between Panic Disorders and Social Anxiety page, I explain the differences between those two
disorders.
There are other sub types of anxiety problems as well.
These other types include general anxiety disorder where a person has vague
non-specific anxiety. Their anxiety is more pervasive and isn’t characterized by the severe episodes that
begin suddenly that is typical of panic attacks.
Post traumatic stress syndrome is another anxiety sub category that most of us
have heard about.
And specific phobias, such as fear of flying or fear of high places, are also
sub categories of anxiety.
All of these cause a great deal of misery.
Fortunately, we have more treatment options than ever to choose from to find relief from any
form of anxiety. I talk about a lot of these on this site. Here’s a list to give you an idea of what
you can find out about here and elsewhere:
• Breathing techniques
• Relaxation response
• Meditation
• Cognitive Restructuring
• Counseling
• Group therapy
• Behavioral therapy
• Diet
• Exercise
• Journaling
• Emotional freedom technique
• Medication
As you can see, the list is pretty long, and I’m sure it’s not complete. You don’t have to
use all of them, but it might take a little testing to find out which ones are right for you.
Some, like diaphragmatic breathing, exercise and meditation, are healthy habits everyone ought
to develop. These would be good to do even if you didn’t have issues with anxiety.
Others, like group therapy for example, might only be relevant for a few people and will
require finding the appropriate professional.
You’ll notice that many of these things you can teach yourself from books, courses or the
internet. Others you’ll master best if you work with an instructor.
In today's world we're blessed with a lot of information on the web. The
challenge is knowing what's good and what's junk. And there is a lot of junk out there.
One of the things I do is search for products that I think are really
worthwhile. When I find some, I write about them so you can decide if you want to investigate
further.

that I think could be the answer for a lot of people.
